Tom Sawyer in the Movies
Presenter:
Description of Event: "Tom Sawyer in the Movies" - part of the Filmmaker's Sampler Series. "Tom Sawyer in the Movies" will use the famous whitewashing-the-fence scene to highlight how different films reflect the time and place they were made. For example, the 1973 "Reader's Digest" version was a musical with Johnny Whitaker singing songs by the Sherman Brothers (Oscar-winners for "Mary Poppins"). But perhaps the strangest version is a 1981 TV special from the USSR with Tom and Huck as Soviet peasants. Open to the public. Children free with paying adult.
